Kobe the new Jordan?

20 January 2012 | By suzi-kazr in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

Doi you agree?

Article courtesy of Yahoo! Sports:

Ever since Michael Jordan retired — all three times, really — the NBA has searched for the heir to his throne. Many players have popped up as pretenders to the throne, from Harold Miner to Jerry Stackhouse to Vince Carter. In recent years, people have stopped trying to find a clone and just searched for a similarly dominant great player. If you ever wondered why LeBron James is seen as such a failure, a lot of it has to do with his inability to meet the example set by Jordan.

There are many great players in the NBA these days, most of whom have never been directly compared to Jordan. Nevertheless, His Airness says only one player comes close enough to his greatness to merit the comparison. Not surprisingly, that player is Kobe Bryant. Here’s what Roland Lazenby, a great writer currently working on a Jordan book, tweeted on Sunday (via PBT):

Kobe’s ultimate competition is MJ. That’s why MJ watches him. MJ made people think what he was doing wasn’t human. Ditto the Kobester.

I never said Kobe was better than MJ. MJ just told me Kobe’s the only one to have done the work, to deserve comparison.

Congratulations, Kobe: Your life’s work has meant something. All that time spent aping Jordan’s movements and skills has paid off. He acknowledged you. You made it.

Of course, if the notoriously petty Jordan was going to mention anyone, it makes that he’d single out Kobe, and not just because he’d consider the mimicry flattering. Bryant really does work harder than everyone else, and he’s been good for long enough (with no signs of slowing down) that he may eventually top Jordan’s longevity. They’re similarly insane competitors.

The “Next Jordan” idea was always a silly one, but Bryant is certainly the player most like Jordan in all aspects of his game — even if he eventually becomes something less than the greatest player of the post-MJ era, which I’m sure many of you will argue in the comments. That’s an accomplishment in itself. Even coming close to the top means something.

New Bachelorette!?

19 January 2012 | By suzi-kazr in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

Emily Maynard’s life just got a whole lot rosier!

The North Carolina single mom — who was famously proposed to by Brad Womack on ABC’s The Bachelor in March 2011 — is ready to move on after their nasty split, and will search for love again as the network’s newest Bachelorette, multiple sources confirm in the new Us Weekly.

Maynard, 25, has signed on for the show’s eighth season, and will start filming in March. It was a “change of heart” for Maynard after months of playing hard-to-get with ABC, a Maynard pal tells Us. “She’s looking for a man — not a little boy.”

Though Bachelor and Bachelorette fans are used to seeing the show’s exploits carried out in a posh Los Angeles mansion where the contestants bunk together, a second insider says production for the series will relocate to Charlotte, N.C., where Maynard raises her young daughter, Ricki.

“The guys will be flying to her. We’re switching things up a bit,” hints an insider.

Maynard’s upcoming search for love begins nearly one year after she and Womack, 38, called off their engagement. Shortly after their split, Maynard endured a barrage angry calls from her ex, but insisted there was no chance of a reconciliation.

“I wanted to be married and have more children, but I doubted he was going to still want to be with me,” she told Bachelor host Chris Harrison in an emotional July 2011 interview. “As a single mom, I don’t have the luxury of saying “we’ll figure it out when we get there.” I need that reassurance that he’d want to be with me six weeks down the road much less six years.”

For more on why Maynard said yes and what to expect on the new season, check out the new Us Weekly, on stands Friday.

My vacation horror stories.

16 January 2012 | By suzi-kazr in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

After reading the stories about the sinking cruise liner over the weekend, it made me not only think about the people that were involved and hope for the best for all of them and their families but I began to think about my own vacation horror stories. I have thankfully never been in a life threatening situation but I have been:

1. Chased by wild donkeys while vacationing in South Dakota after thinking grabbing some food and heading into a field full of donkeys was a cute, smart thing to do. This is NOT a smart thing to do. After running out of food, you find yourself in a field of angry asses.

2. Ending up on the underside of a horse. This happened while vacationing with my family at a friends house in Nebraska. It started with a friendly ride on their neighbors horse, but ended badly as the horse decided it did not want to give anyone a ride. I happened to be the anyone riding the horse. He began to run fast, very fast. While this was happening, the saddle became loose and I then found myself and the saddle on the underside of the horse, WHILE he was still galloping at a fast pace. I had no choice but to let fate take the reigns, I dropped to the ground chancing being trotted over. Thankfully, the horse missed me and the owners were quick to grab me from the ground. I came out uninjured and scared sh*tless of horses.

3. Horseback riding at fast trot DOWN the hilltops of the Black Hills. You would think that after the above event, I would not take my chances with horses right? I decided to buck up and go with my family on a “tour” of the black hills in South Dakota. I must have gotten the horse that didnt want to put up with people that day and about half way through our tour, my horse decided it wanted to get down the hilltop as fast as it could. There I found myself, scared sh*tless again dealing with a crazed horse. Luckily, it just ended in tears and frightness, no injuries involved.

4. A stolen identity. I look back now at this story and think to myself “what in the hell were you thinking!”. Back when I was 18, my best friend and I drove from Des Moines to South Padre Island in Texas for Spring Break. Being 18, we wanted to experience drinking legallly LOL and the only way to do this was to cross the border. At this time, you just had to pay a quarter to cross with no questions asked. So, we did just that and found ourselves walking about Mexico, by ourselves, drinking margaritas and enjoying life. We were about half way though the day, walking around when we noticed a young local boy come and being talking to us. I didn’t understand a word of spanish and my girl friend knew just a few words so we tried to chat with this adorable little boy for a bit then he walked off and met up with a few older boys. Then I noticed that my backpack I had on, was unzipped. That cute little boy was a distraction while the older boys were digging into my backpack. They got ahold of everything in my wallet, which included my Social Security card, ID, cell phone, credit card, etc. At this point, I was freaking out. We were stranded in a not so nice part of Mexico, and my identity had been stolen. What to do now? Well, we decide to venture back to the border to find the policia. They then through is in the back of a tiny honda, with no sirens and drove us around the slums to see if we could identify the boys that stole our items. The police knew no english and we had no idea where we were. We were both small, blond american girls, in Mexico. I can not believe we made it out alive. I can not believe I got into a car, that even to this day, we have no idea if it was even the police. Finally, I just looked at my friend in tears and said, please tell them to take us back to America. I have to check my credit and my identity every year now, to make sure there is not someone using my information.

Lesson learned.

Don’t deal with asses. Learn spanish, pay attention to your surroundings and NEVER ride on an angry horse.

How do you injure a zombie?!

11 October 2011 | By suzi-kazr in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

16 actors dressed as zombies were injured this morning during an accident on the Toronto set of the horror flick “Resident Evil 5” … but the costumes were so gory, officials had a tough time assessing the REAL injuries.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … the actors were on a set that was on wheels … when the set suddenly moved, and the 16 actors plummeted roughly 20 feet down to the ground.

We’re told none of the injuries appear to be life threatening — but some of the actors are being treated for arm, leg and back injuries — and possible broken bones.

All of the actors were transported to a local hospital.

TMZ has learned the Toronto Police Dept. and the Ministry of Labor are investigating the situation.

Cardio weak?!

20 June 2011 | By suzi-kazr in Uncategorized | No Comments Yet

Wow, this was a tough week. I sweated more than I ever thought was possible and it showed as I fit into an old pair of jeans this weekend! My husband was laughing and asked me if I was okay as I strutted around in them. It wasn’t a big change and the waist line size was the same as the ones I currently wear, but they had become to tight so I put them away in storage. I know it may sound silly, but it was such a huge deal to me because I felt great and I worked hard. I had been feeling good every day as I exited class but this really topped it off.

Cardio week involved alot of kickboxing, squats and jumping jacks. I can tell I am getting stronger as each week the exercises become easier for me to do and I can use a little bit of a heavier weight during kettlebell class.

After one month complete, I have decided I will return for another session and continue my journey into a healthier, happier life. I have more energy than I have for years now, and my metabolism is improving greatly!

I’ll keep you posted on my results as they come.

Week 5……. Let’s Do this!     :)
